Opportunities To Make A (Big) Difference
As our work has become better known, more people turn to us and patient numbers grow. As we train our own staff and those of partner institutions, surgical capacity grows and range and number of treatments we can provide grows. As that capacity expands, the funding required for equipment and medications also increase. New needs and opportunities also naturally flow as we develop and deepen our institutional and programmatic relationships.
In addition to this organic growth, we have been invited by St. Peter’s Missionary Hospital in Jacobu to set up and manage a new mobile clinic. Both honored and determined, we are now actively working to locate new funding partners to help us establish this new Mobile Clinic. Funds will cover additional staff time, a vehicle, pediatric surgical instruments, and psychiatric medications. The chronic problem of people we serve is poverty. The inability to pay means that we cannot adopt a ‘user pays’ approach. If we did, this especially affects the children who require pediatric
surgery, where the parents cannot afford the health insurance needed to buy medications or pay for an operation. To ensure that our existing work continues and to pursue new opportunities to provide life-changing and life-saving work, we therefore rely on the donations of generous supporters who partner with us. If we have touched a nerve, or are aligned with your existing philanthropic activities, please contact us. We would welcome you to the journey of care and solidarity, health and flourishing.
While we continue to seek a lasting solution, we have, meanwhile, set up a special fund to ensure that as many children as possible get the surgical care they deserve. In 2019, we were delighted to inform our readers that 114 children underwent successful surgery thanks to those who kindly donated to this fund.
